As of today (where I am) it is the fourth of November and so far, I've jotted down approximately 7,400 words for the NaNoWriMo challenge, which is a pretty safe number at this point. Thanks to everyone who wished me well in my last post and made awesomely helpful suggestions. I knew I could count on you guys. So yeah, big bear hugs for everyone! As for everyone else participating in this with me, more power to us!
In other news, I got to watch The Thing (2011) today, which is actually a (spoiler) prequel of John Carpenter's 1982 one. I liked how the film chose to portray the events that had played out before Kurt Russell came on down, just being a BAMF with a flamethrower (although there was some discontinuity). I enjoyed the 1982 one and had mixed feelings for this prequel but I ended up actually liking it. The only thing I was a bit disappointed at was the fact that although there was quite a bit of tension and guess-work required to figure out who the thing was in this film, there was not as much as there was in the 1982 one. There were also some creature revelations that would leave you wondering how exactly they came in contact with the thing in the first place. Ah well, CGI creature designs were great, anyway. But maybe I'm a bit biased since I have a thing for feeling really unnerved at people getting all distorted and shizz. Case in point: I actually got scared watching "The Unborn" solely due to the old guy getting all contortion-y.

So the 2011 Thing provides something like that towards the end, but double the fun, if you know what I mean. *wink wink* Having Mary Elizabeth Winstead on there (in contrast to the all-boys cast of the original) was fine by me, because yay girl power! But seriously, she did a pretty decent job and there was thankfully no romantic angle, so that was good.
Overall, the film was pretty okay, not as great as John Carpenter's, but it at least made an effort to try and be so. I'd recommend it.
